How to care for your leather

How to care for your leather

Leather that
ages with you.

Genuine leather is not low-maintenance — it's worth-it maintenance. Fifteen minutes a month is all it takes to keep your Iron Tailor piece looking exceptional for years, not seasons.

1. The everyday essentials

1. Wipe after every use
Use a clean, dry cloth to wipe down your leather after use. This removes surface dust and oils that accumulate daily and can dull the finish over time.

2. Keep away from direct sunlight
Prolonged sun exposure fades the colour and dries out the leather. Store your piece in a cool, shaded spot — ideally in the dust bag it came in.

3. Condition every 2–3 months
Apply a small amount of leather balm or conditioner with a soft cloth, in circular motions. This keeps the leather supple, prevents cracking, and deepens the natural patina over time.

4. Avoid water and moisture
If your leather gets wet, blot (don't rub) with a dry cloth immediately and let it air dry naturally. Never use a hair dryer or direct heat — it causes the leather to crack and shrink.

5. Store correctly when not in use
Stuff bags with tissue paper to hold their shape. Never store leather in plastic — it needs to breathe. A fabric dust bag or pillowcase works perfectly.

2. Keep it nourished

1. Clean the surface first

Before conditioning, wipe the piece with a slightly damp cloth to remove any surface dirt. Let it dry completely before the next step — conditioning on top of dirt locks it in.

2. Apply a small amount of conditioner

Use a leather-specific conditioner or balm — never petroleum-based products or coconut oil. Apply a pea-sized amount to a soft cloth and work it in using small, circular motions.

3. Cover the entire surface evenly

Don't concentrate the conditioner in one area. Work across the full surface, including seams and corners where leather tends to dry out first.

4. Let it absorb, then buff

Allow the conditioner to absorb for 10–15 minutes. Then use a clean, dry cloth to gently buff the surface. Your leather should look richer and feel supple — not greasy.
